It wasnt that long ago that the,
(now trendy) suburbs of Yarraville and Williamstown were areas once frowned upon. A decade on, and the median house prices range today from $885,000 to $1 million.
What's changed in that time - nothing except people's ignorance and perspective. My family lived in the "Sleepy Hollow" town of Geelong for most of our lives, back in the day when we knew what we had, tho others didnt which was - one of the best kept secrets of Victoria! Now many have relocated to these outer areas preferring the quality of life, and learning to commute to the big smoke, as and when required.
As for those considered the least favourable suburbs of Melbourne (according to the media's eastern preference) If you can walk around a suburb at night and feel totally safe, what price do you put on that? Maybe there is one more secret yet to be discovered.
