Pediastrian Prahran

"IT WAS once feted as the home of cutting-edge fashion and the place to shop in Melbourne, but Chapel Street traders say their beloved strip has fallen into a terminal decline and now only offers a ''third-rate'' shopping experience" read more>>
I worked for ~2 years in the South Yarra, Prahran area, walked the streets daily taking the banking, or the mail, passing shops that I would often pop my head in from time to time, and personally, I felt that it's one of the most boring, uninteresting, overpriced and overlauded suburbs I've come across.
The highlight of that time was bumping into Denise Drysdale in Aldi! Thank goodness for the few remaining Aussies that remain grounded and don't buy into the snobbery!
Are the Melbourne burbs really that boring? The outer suburbs have their own modern shopping centres complete with lakes, cinemas, restaurants, surrounding parklands, gymnasiums, train stations delivering commuters right to the door, libraries, swimming pools, cafes, fashion shops galore and far better fresh food markets. Frankly the only thing missing are the high prices and the attitude.
But if I had to name a POI in Prahran it would have to be "Chapel Street Bazaar". A market-style shop full of independant stalls with fantastic blasts from the past. It would be easy to while away hours, which more often than not I would avoid - if I had taken that one step, I might never have returned to work!
